Colourful and quirky flowerpot characters will be popping up at stations along the iconic Settle Carlisle Railway this summer, as part of the 150th anniversary of passenger services along the internationally famous line.

From Saturday 11 July, passengers travelling along the scenic 72-mile railway will be able to spot a host of creative displays at stations along the route, bringing the spirit of this much-loved community festival onto the railway.

More than 300 people enjoyed two performances of the new play celebrating 150 years of passenger services on the Settle Carlisle Line – including the real Halifax Town supporter who is featured in Lives Along the Line.

A new play celebrating 150 years of passenger service on the world-famous Settle Carlisle Railway will receive its premiere this weekend, bringing the dramatic history and human stories of the iconic route to life.

Commissioned by the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, Lives Along the Line has been created to mark this significant milestone in the railway’s history and celebrate the people, communities and events that have shaped the line over the past century and a half.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Settle-Carlisle Railway. Settle Storeis is hosting the first of two free talks by local historian Bob Swallow on Wednesday, 27th May at 10am.

The Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, Community Rail Partnership, has received official re-accreditation from the Department for Transport, recognising the organisation’s high standards and the important role it plays in supporting communities along the iconic railway line.

As the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company celebrates 150 years of passenger service along the iconic line, they are launching a new, free, digital way to celebrate the Easter holidays – with a virtual Easter egg hunt.

The free Traxplorer App which guides passengers through one of the most scenic train journeys in Europe will also offer the online game to spot the eggs as they travel on the railway.

Passengers travelling on the Settle Carlisle line from Sunday, April 5, will be able to travel onwards to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

This year, the Settle Carlisle line celebrates 150 years of providing passenger services, and travellers this summer will have more options on where they can travel onwards.

Two summer bus services are opening up Swaledale and Wensleydale to visitors travelling on the Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line, providing links into the Yorkshire Dales National Park every Sunday.

Station adopters from across the North gathered in Carlisle for the first joint Station Adoption Conference (Wednesday, 25 March).

More than 50 volunteers who help care for and champion their local railway stations were invited to attend the event at Cumbria House. The joint Community Rail regional Station Adopters conference was hosted collaboratively by the three Community Rail Partnerships whose routes meet in Carlisle: Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership, Community Rail Cumbria and Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company.
